Dalry Flower Show 2008

The Glenkens Society Flower Show (believed to be the oldest Flower Show in the country) was held in Dalry Town Hall on Saturday 23th August.
It was a very successful show although the childrens exhibits were down, the total number of adults entries of over 620 was up on the previous year.
The judges were very impressed with the quality of the exhibits considering the ammount of wet weather we have had.
Lord Sinclair opened the show and afterwards presented the Trophies.
He said he thought the exhibits for such a small area were very good.
In his speech he quoted the record size of some types of vegetables.

Vegetables Alex Baxter, Creetown Pot Plants James Murray, Gelston Cut Flowers James Murray Decorative Marylin Lothian, New Galloway Handicrafts Wilma Ingram. Twynholm Produce Mary McMorran, Twynholm Photographs Roy Hooker, Dalry Childrens Shirley Lemon, Dalry Hanging Baskets, Pots, and Troughs etc. Mr Billy Orr, Balmaclellan



In the Vegetable Section the best exhibit was with Potatoes. In the Pot Plants the cup was won with a Gloxinia The cut flowers was won with a vase of Dahlias The best exhibit in the Decorative Classes was an entry of a Three Flower Arrangement. In the Handicraft section the best exhibit was a Paining In the Produce Section the best exhibit was a Hand Made Brown Loaf and in the Children's Section the best exhibit was Pasta Picture

The Farmers Market which started in February 2007 has proven to be such a success, it will now take place monthly on the second Saturday of each month until further notice
This is advertised on the new poster boards as well as in many local shops around the region.Look out for the posters
