Concert Report

Bernie Marsden with support from ‘Wood & Wire’ - featuring Doug Carroll and Kenny Hisley. This was a wonderful evening of brilliant music with Bernie playing with an eclectic mix of deep blues, classic shuffles, funk and country for over an hour. Doug was invited by Bernie to accompany him for a few numbers towards the end of the evening. See the "http://www.berniemarsden.co.uk" Bernie Marsden web site for more information about Bernie.

Former Whitesnake guitarist, Bernie Marsden, took time from a busy schedule to visit Dumfries and Galloway. Bernie was keen to take the chance to pass on his skills to young people. Masterclasses where organised at Lockerbie Academy, Dumfries Academy, Dalry School and Castle Douglas High School.

He was supported by 2 local guys, Doug Carrol originally from Dalbeattie and Kenny Hisley of Castle Douglas. This pair opened the concert evening with an hour of their own special brand of accousticated music.

Wood and Wire

‘Wood and Wire’ is an outstanding local acoustic band who sing a wide variety of songs from Rock to traditional Scots and Burns, with their own slant. Band members, Doug Carroll and Kenny Hilsley play mainly at Burns Suppers around Dumfries and Galloway and Ayrshire.
The band who have played together for 12 years, got its name because Kenny, used to be a joiner (wood), and Doug, was a TV and radio engineer (wire), and also because they play acoustic guitars.

This pair opened the concert evening with an hour of their own special brand of accousticated music.

Doug Carroll

Originally from Kirkpatrick Durham and now living in Dalbeattie, also plays in the Sensational Mary Barclay Band and works as a guitar technician and does PA hire.
Doug is one of the most talented guitarists in the UK and beyond!
Having played guitar since he was a teenager, Doug is passionate about music and, as well as being a founder member of the Sensational Mary Barclay Band, http://www.sensationalmarybarclayband.com/the-band/index.php, he also teaches guitar.
Doug admires many musicians, particularly guitarists such as Mark Knopfler and Jeff Beck but his biggest influence is the late, great Rory Gallagher.
Doug has co-written the tracks on 'Let It Fly Tonight' but has also written music for film and television. More recently, he went to Nashville, USA to promote songs with writing partner, Colin Smart.

Kenny Hisley

Was originally from Castle Douglas and now living in Lochmaben, works at Dumfries and Galloway College as a programme manager.
